What is Changemakers?
Changemakers is a 6-session series combining sexual abuse prevention education and social media with digital marketing training for Lebanon County teens. Our goal is to promote mental and physical health by helping teens recognize and prevent unhealthy relationships. Through our 6 sessions we will look at and identify strategies to intervene and keep teens safe while offering tools to share messaging about healthy relationships with other teens on social media.
Each week we’ll focus on a different topic followed by use and practice of the topic via social media. These classes transcend through the sessions into everyday life of each teen.
Who are we?
Changemakers is comprised of teens from the Youth Advocate Program (YAP) in Lebanon County, a SARCC Prevention & Outreach Specialist, Kaity Nordoff, and a local Lebanon marketing specialist. Together we’re working to promote and sustain healthy relationships.

Week 1: “Flirting, Joking and Sexual Harassment”
To kick off our program we started talking about the basics of healthy relationships and healthy interactions. We began by breaking down flirting, joking and sexual harassment.
Week 2: “Sexuality and Gender Stereotypes”
This week we learned all about sexuality and gender stereotypes. A lot of times teenagers are not encouraged to talk openly about sexuality and we gave them the space to talk about it with us and their peers. Trevor talked about the recent Gillette commercial from a social media marketing perspective. We talked about what worked about the commercial and what didn’t work.
Week 3: “Consent & Respecting Boundaries”
This week Kaity talked all about consent & respecting boundaries. A lot of the teens didn’t know exactly what consent was going into the lesson but we were able to agree upon “consent is permission”. Trevor also wanted to bring out the teens creativity so we had a logo drawing contest for Changemakers.

This week for our #ProjectChangemakers class, we talked ALL about consent. Do you know what consent means?Posted by SARCC on Thursday, February 28, 2019
Week 4: “Sexual Abuse and Assault”
This week Kaity lead the discussion about the difficult but necessary subject of sexual abuse and sexual assault. Trevor talked about the psychology behind why people share stuff on social media and how certain colors evoke certain emotions in the brain so the teens have an idea for what to make for their social media posts.
Week 5: “Sexual Abuse and Assault Continued”
During this week Kaity continued her tough conversation about sexual abuse and sexual assault focusing in on what teens can say to somebody who was brave enough to come forward to them about their sexual violence experiences. All the ideas we came up with boiled down into three main phrases, “I’m Sorry”, “You didn’t deserve it”, and “How can I help?”. Trevor talked the three most important parts of any social media post, the engaging photo, the caption, and the well-thought out hashtags.
Week 6: “Creating Caring Communities”
We have officially wrapped up our #ProjectChangemakers program this week! We had such a great time talking to local teens about a whole range of subjects from what exactly is consent to how they can drive change through social media.
